Do I need a referral? Can you work with my GP or other therapists?
You do not need a referral to see us. Yes, we can work alongside your team of practitioners. We regularly work alongside physiotherapists, psychologists, osteopaths, fertility specialists, gynaecologists and obstetricians, sports medicine GP's and general GP's to name a few.
What do I need to know before my first acupuncture appointment?
We will do a thorough health screen as part of your initial consultation, running through your current reason for visiting and any relevant history. We will learn about any medications, supplements that you're taking and your previous experiences with other practitioners, specialist treatments (if necessary) in relation to your presenting condition. We do recommend having something to eat prior to your appointment, especially if you have low blood pressure or glucose imbalances. You can wear any clothing, no dress code is necessary.
How much does Acupuncture cost? Do you accept private health rebates?
Acupuncture consultations can range from $100 - $200, at Vyne Health our sessions are $130 for an initial consultation (inclusive of treatment) and $110 for return treatments, but depending on your acupuncture treatment our prices vary for example: cosmetic acupuncture offerings etc. Please look at our treatment menu page for pricing or call our clinic to learn more about out services and prices. Yes, we offer on the spot private health claiming. We recommend contacting your health provider to determine your rebate as everyone's level of cover varies.
Can you bulk bill acupuncture?
We do not bulk bill; however we do accept private health rebates. A medical doctor, who performs medical acupuncture can bulk bill, Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture isn't eligible for bulk billing.
What does acupuncture help with?
A frequently asked question, however based on our clinical experience, acupuncture is frequently sought out when people are in pain, feel stressed out, either before, during or after pregnancy, alongside fertility treatments such as IUI, ICSI or IVF, or when you are simply feeling run down or have hay fever or symptoms during seasonal changes, emotional changes or life changes. How long are acupuncture treatments and how many acupuncture sessions will I need?
Generally acupuncture sessions range from 45 minutes to 60 minutes, acupuncture treatments at Vyne Health are 60 minutes long.
How many sessions will you need, hmm... how long is a piece of string? This is a very broad question - instead of trying to answer here, we suggest talking with a practitioner directly to better understand why you might be coming in for acupuncture and learn how we can best help answer this question tailored specifically to your needs.
Are acupuncture treatments safe? Does it hurt? Are there side effects?
Acupuncture is generally considered to be safe but occasionally (as with all health treatments) may be associated with possible adverse reactions in individual cases. Often our patients report minimal to no pain associated with needling and find it relaxing.
How do I choose the right Chinese Medicine acupuncture practitioner or Japanese Acupuncture practitioner?
We recommend looking at our practitioner profiles to select a practitioner that resonates with you and your reason for having acupuncture. When selecting an acupuncture clinic near you, we suggest ensuring that they are fully qualified and regulated with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency).
Cosmetic Acupuncture FAQs
What is cosmetic acupuncture?
Cosmetic acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into the skin of the face. It may be of benefit for increasing collagen, firming muscles and relaxing lines of the face in conjunction with your usual care.
Is cosmetic acupuncture the same as acupuncture?
Cosmetic acupuncture uses needles finer and shorter than standard acupuncture needles, and also incorporates acupuncture points on the face.
What is cosmetic acupuncture commonly used for?
Relaxation, muscle pain from clenching jaws or headaches, fine line and aging, loss of skin elasticity.
What are the side effects of cosmetic acupuncture? Is it safe?
Whilst all care is taken, side effects may include bruising at the site of the needle, however this rare. Make sure to tell your practitioner if you are taking any medication that promotes bleeding, or supplements such as fish oil. Some people may experience some slight redness due to increased blood supply and stimulation following treatment, however this is very short lived and subsides within hours to minutes. How long does it take for cosmetic acupuncture to work?
Results can be seen immediately, however due collagen rebuilding, the effects continue for 4-6 weeks. You may notice your skin plumps as this collagen rebuilds.
How many sessions of cosmetic acupuncture do you need?
10-12 sessions are ideal over a period of 2-4 week intervals for best results. However fewer sessions will still yield mild results.
Is cosmetic acupuncture the same as facial acupuncture?
Yes.
What products are used during the facial during cosmetic acupuncture? Are they vegan and 100% toxin free?
Skin juice products are Australian made and designed by a Naturopath, made of purely plant and seed oils, they are safe in pregnancy and contain no fillers or added fragrances. These products are toxin free and fully bioavailable to the skin.
Psychology FAQs
How much does it cost to see a psychologist in Queensland?
Fees are set by each individual psychologist. There is no set fee however the Australian Psychological Society suggests a standard 46-to-60-minute consultation fee for 2024-2025 as $311.
At Vyne Health your Psychologist Stephanie Alexander – The Feel Good Psychologist, fees are $200 per session. Each session runs for 50 minutes.
Do you accept chronic disease management plans?
Yes. With a Chronic Disease Management Plan, you are eligible to receive 5 rebated sessions with an allied health professional, one of which can be a psychologist. You can use all 5 sessions with a psychologist or across many disciplines.
A rebate of $60.35 can be obtained with this plan under Medicare item number 10968.
Do you accept return to work / DVA/ NDIS & CTP claims?
No not at this time.
Do I need a referral?
No, you do not need a referral to see a psychologist.
How do I use a mental health care plan? What is a MHCP?
See your GP for a Mental Healthcare Plan. This allows you to get 10 rebated sessions with a psychologist within a calendar year. You can obtain separate plans for one-on-one therapy and group therapy.
Does Medicare cover psychology fees?
With a MHCP, Medicare will rebate a portion of your session fee for a maximum of 10 sessions in a calendar year.
Are psychological assessments covered by Medicare?
This is dependent on the assessment and will vary for each individual psychologist/practice.
Do you accept private health rebates?
Yes.
How long are the Psychology sessions?
50 minutes.
Do I need to bring anything?
Just yourself.
Can someone come with me to my psychology appointment?
Please discuss bringing someone with you before your session. To ensure the most productive and positive session, there needs to be a clear understanding as to the benefit of having someone join you.
What age do you work with?
18+.
Can a psychologist diagnose ADHD?
Yes.
Can a psychologist diagnose you with a mental illness?
Yes.
What is the difference between psychology and a psychiatrist?
A psychologist is a tertiary trained professional in psychology able to diagnose and provide a range of different treatment modalities to clients. They are not able to prescribe medications.
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor that has trained in medicine and has specialised in psychiatry. They can prescribe medications.

REMEDIAL MASSAGE QUESTIONS
What is the difference between Massage and Remedial Massage?
Remedial Massage includes an in-depth consultation and assessment to guide the treatment for improving pain and mobility. Incorporating a variety of techniques as indicated with information gathered from the consultation. Remedial Massage treatments are specific to the client's history and goals, with a desired outcome at the forefront. Remedial Massage focuses on a specific concern or injury as opposed to general full body massage or full body relaxation massage. If you want a “full body massage” it is important to talk to your practitioner.
Is remedial massage covered by Medicare?
No, unfortunately Remedial Massage is not covered by Medicare.
Is Remedial Massage covered by Private Health?
Yes! Depending on your cover, Remedial Massage may be included in your Private Health extras.
What is the difference between Remedial Massage and Physiotherapy?
Remedial Massage utilises manual therapy to help support tissue recovery, relieve tension, and assist in pain management. Physiotherapy may include some massage; however, it is focused on exercise prescription to restore function for joint, disc or neural conditions, injury rehabilitation and chronic pain.
How much does remedial massage cost in Australia?
Remedial Massage can vary anywhere from $100 - $200 per hour depending on location and practitioner experience and additional qualifications.
How often should I get a remedial massage?
Recommended treatment frequency is individual and dependent on several considerations including lifestyle factors, client history, exercise, stress levels, personal preference, and general health etc. For most people, it is recommended anywhere between every 2 - 6 weeks for pain management and prevention.
What happens to your body after a remedial massage?
Remedial Massage supports pain relief and tissue recovery via an increase in blood flow and Nervous System relaxation to inhibit the body's pain response. It may be normal to feel tired, lightheaded, and potentially tender for a brief time following Remedial Massage, but these symptoms should subside quickly as the body adapts and recovers over the next 24hr-48hrs.
Why does it hurt after a remedial massage?
Some people may experience tenderness after Remedial Massage due to Nervous System sensitivity. It is important to mention here that pain is not an indication of damage but a Nervous System response. Some people may feel sorer than others post-treatment due to several factors including stress, sleep, dehydration, hormones, pressure tolerance, exercise, injury history, etc.
Is remedial massage good for back pain?
Yes! Remedial Massage can be highly effective at managing and mitigating back pain.
What body parts should not be massaged?
Body parts that have open wounds, inflammation, infection, or clotting should be avoided. In absence of these conditions, the entire body is safe to be massaged if the practitioner is well educated in anatomy and aware of areas to provide caution and adjust pressure and/or technique etc.
Why do I cry after a deep tissue massage?
Some people may experience heightened emotions after a deep tissue massage due to Nervous System stimulation. Remember, what is not expressed is being suppressed, and sometimes those emotions can come to the surface when the body feels safe enough to relax and experience the emotions instead of resisting them.
Why do I feel sick after a remedial massage?
Some people may experience mild nausea or dizziness post-massage due to the increase in blood circulation. Make sure you drink plenty of water both before and after your massage and get some rest.
What do I wear to a massage?
Wear whatever you are comfortable in. Most people wear something easy to get in and out of as they prefer to just wear underwear during their massage, however if you are more comfortable with more clothing on that is completely welcome and we can always work around it. Your comfort and needs are our top priority.
What is dry needling?
Dry Needling is an adjunct to treatments like Remedial Massage performed by an accredited practitioner who has undertaken additional training. Dry Needling involves the insertion of a thin, pin-sized needle into or near a trigger point, or "knot". The needles stimulate a twitch response from your muscle to reduce tension, increase blood flow and decrease local and referred pain. It may be normal to feel some discomfort during dry needling or tenderness for up to 48hrs afterwards, so it is important to keep moving and stay hydrated.

What is myofascial cupping?
Myofascial cupping involves using negative pressure, or suction, to manipulate the skin and underlying soft tissues (fascia and muscle).

PREGNANCY MASSAGE QUESTIONS
Are massages OK during pregnancy?
Yes! Massage is safe during all phases of pregnancy. In fact, massage is recommended to help alleviate and manage aches and pains that commonly arise during pregnancy, especially lower back pain, shoulder tension and tight hips.
What areas cannot be massaged during pregnancy?
While it is safe to receive full body massage during pregnancy, it is advised to avoid applying pressure to some areas such as the abdomen and intentionally stimulating acupressure points that are contraindicated during pregnancy.
Can I lay on my stomach for massage while pregnant?
Great news, At Vyne Health we have pregnancy pillows and pregnancy wedges for your comfort. Pregnancy massage can be performed in either a side lying position or on your stomach when a Pregnancy Pillow is available.
Why no massage in the first trimester?
While some practitioners prefer not to, it is safe to receive massage during the first trimester of pregnancy. "Overall, whilst direct evidence from clinical trials is lacking, considerations of physiological mechanisms regulating pregnancy and known risk factors associated with miscarriage provide no evidence that massage in pregnancy would increase a patient’s risk of miscarriage (1)”

What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage?
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle, light pressure massage used to stimulate lymphatic circulation to assist the body's detoxification process, reduce swelling and inflammation.
Where does the fluid go after lymphatic drainage massage?
Lymph fluid gets filtered and processed through the Lymph Nodes and returned to the blood stream.
How do I know if my lymphatic system is clogged?
A sluggish lymphatic system may present symptoms such as swelling, bloating, fatigue or sluggishness, impaired recovery or healing, fluid retention, skin issues such as acne, impaired immunity, sinus congestion and headaches.
What is the disadvantage of lymphatic massage?
Lymphatic Massage is not recommended for people who have a heart condition, kidney problems or cellulitis.

Weekly Lymphatic Drainage Massage sessions are advised for post-operative or injury recovery, for general Lymphatic System support monthly sessions are recommended.
What is the difference between remedial massage and lymphatic massage?

What is womb hara massage?
Womb hara is a fusion massage, combining traditional womb and abdominal massage techniques from various cultures that practiced these therapies to heal themselves and others. The traditional therapies are based around the notion of the wombs ability to birth new life and creation, and embracing the embodiment of living from our centre, where we can live and procure abundance out of life by awakening our feminine potential.
What does a womb hara massage do?
The massage releases tension, circulates blood and lymph and unbinds fascia to create freedom of movement and improved flow throughout the digestive and womb area.
When is the best time to do womb hara massage?
Womb hara can be performed any time during the cycle, but its best avoided during bleeding phase and pregnancy.
What happens in a womb hara massage?
A consultation is performed, then laying face down you will be gently rocked and massaged first on the back, with a sacral and coccyx release method. Then you will be once again rocked and massaged in the abdomen and womb area, also including some acupuncture meridians on the arms.
What is rebozo and how is it used during womb hara massage?
Rebozo is also used by many cultures in south America after birth to support the mother with ritual massage. It honours the woman that has birthed new life, and may be used for healing traumas that effect the spirit.
What is a rebozo scarf and how might it be used in labour?
Rebozo is a traditional shawl that can be arranged in positions to take pressure off the belly during pregnancy, and to gently rock the body to relieve discomfort either during pregnancy or labour.
What is closing of the bones ceremony?
Closing the bones allows a closure of a chapter in life, be it following giving birth, miscarriage, leaving a relationship or any significant life change. Traditionally it is used to bind the fragments of the soul that leave the body during an overwhelming life experience.
When would someone do a closing of the bones ceremony?
You may choose this add on to finalise a period of in your life, such as after birth, miscarriage or ending of a relationship. You may also just like the sensation of being wrapped for deep relaxation.
